Latheron Post Office to close.
I am writing to express my outrage and consternation at the Governments/Post Office plan to close the Post Office at Latheron, Caithness.
This is yet another example of the absolute contempt and disregard the local rural communities of the Highlands of Scotland are held in by Government and the Mandarins running this country.
The decision makers in high places have no idea of the effect the removal of these facilities will have on the elderly, disabled and other members of the Latheron Community. Everyone knows the Government has been asset stripping the Post Office network of its money making services and this is just another example of its attitude to rural communities. The suggestion that members of the community should wait in the rain and snow for a van to arrive is absurd and an insult to the people of the highlands. Latheron Post office has been efficiently run by the same family since the mid 1800’s and its closure will inflict a deep and lasting wound to this highland community. Miss Lorna Gunn, the Post Mistress has been the Registrar for the Latheron area for many years and this service will be greatly missed.
I hope those that have the power to put a stop to this modern day attempt to clear the highlands yet again will act and rethink their actions.
